History of Grupo Alimentario Copese

Grupo Alimentario Copese came into being in 1976 as a modest business project based on commercialising animal feed. Nowadays, the company has a turnover of more than 67 million euros and creates more than 300 direct and 150 indirect jobs.

The entire company activity is focused on the primary sector, favouring the use of natural resources where it operates, which includes Coca and surrounding villages located in the provinces of Segovia, Ávila and Valladolid.

Nowadays, Grupo Alimentario Copese controls practically 100% of the production process through different business areas - genetics, feed, live pigs, calves, fresh and transformed products - which make up what is called “I.P.P” (Integrated Production Process) internally, without which it would be impossible to take on the challenge of quality and traceability which is in the company’s DNA.

MAIN MILESTONES

• 1976 Piensos COPESE is established
• 1977 Start of pork activity
• 1987 Incorporation of corrector manufacturing and creation of the Laboratory and Formulation Dept
• 1989 First own farm: Los Eriales
• 1990 Definitive implementation of own production of pig livestock. Objective: To produce high-quality meat pigs = PORK LABEL
• 1993 The Eresma brand comes into existence. The group begins the transformation of part of its production into ham, cured meat, cutting room and halves
• 1993 Creation of Pork Selection Centre
• 1997 Duroc breed introduced
• 2002 Development of a specific management IT programme “Hermes” (With this programme, the Group is a forerunner in Spain in transmitting data in real time through the internet)
• 2003 Work finished on the cutting room and its activity begins
• 2007 End of the second stage of the meat centre - Expansion and inclusion of a slaughter room
• 2013 Grupo Alimentario Copese centralises its facilities and administrative functions in Coca (Segovia)
• 2014 Increase in the number of own farms, with the purchase of four new facilities
• 2016 40th Anniversary
• 2016 The corporate image of Eresma undergoes a transformation, geared towards the needs of the 21st-century consumer. With the new claim “From the farm to your table”, the brand resumes the philosophy of the group, based on its entire production process
• 2017 Start of meat-production activity for beef
• 2018 Grupo Alimentario Copese facilities (Salinas and Piensos) become Cardiac protected areas
• 2019 Activity begins at Hola Food, a meat centre located in Villacastín (Segovia)
• 2020 Activity begins in the new feed factory, located at Las Salinas Industrial Park
• 2021 Activity begins at Copese&Co
• 2021 November - New image for the Eresma brand, rural soul.
